The origin of China Clementi

In 1884 Dr Giuseppe Chimenti, skilled botanist, created the recipe of "China Clementi" in his pharmacy in Fivizzano (Lunigiana), situated among the tuscan mountains and hills.

It is a unique Elixir, result of the balanced blending of 2 selected types of tropical cinchonas (Cinchona Calisaya and the rare Succibra) and various aromatic, medicinal herbs.

Nowadays China Clementi is still produced in the same way, following the original recipe dating back to 1884, with the same care and passion.

For more than a century China Clement has been prepared following Dr Clementi's original recipe.

A unique flavor

It's a unique cordial, digestive and aromatic. Its intense scent and soft lingering flavor give unforgettable moments while tasting.

Recognized value

The virtues of this cordial have been recognized and awarded with a golden medal more than a century ago during the International Fair of Rome in 1911.

INGREDIENTS

Cinchona Calisaya

Cinchona Calisaya or China calisaia is an arboreal plant originally common in the Andes, well known for the pharmaceutical use of the alkaloids present in its bark.

It was known as peruvian bark and quinine, a substance used in the prevention of malaria disease, had been extracted from it since the first decades of the 19th century.

Cinchona Succirubra

Cinchona Succirubra comes from Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela and the whole area of the Andes; its bark is red and cracked and its oval leaves turn with time blood-red.

Flowers have purple petals, the lower part of the trunk is rather bare whereas the upper part is full of branches.

Bitter oranges from Mediterranean Sea

Orange zest, medicinal herbs, sugar and alcohol, masterfully blended create the final result.

Of course the recipe is a secret carefully kept by Clementi family for more than 130 years.
